ENOW

The Extreme and Normal Offshore Wind (ENOW) Joint Industry Project (JIP) was initiated in 2017 to meet common requirements of major offshore wind developers. The collaborative research continues to evolve with the energy transition, as illustrated below. The following benefits have been delivered so far:

  • The majority of available met mast data from the North Sea and Baltic region in digital form
  • Additional LiDAR data from the North Sea and offshore Northeastern United States
  • Reduced uncertainty in vertical profiles of extreme and normal wind speed, turbulence intensity and gust factor
  • Quantified performance of widely used global and downscaled wind models for estimation of extreme and normal winds
  • Objective workflow for extreme offshore wind analysis with new extreme wind maps to avoid over-conservatism
